A Viennese tradition

On Saturday, November 15th 2008, Barcelona, the capital of Catalonia, will host the second "Gala de Austria"- Charity ball. The Patron of honor of this event  is the world-famous tenor José Carreras. The Presidency of Honor is formed by the Mayor of the City of Barcelona, Mr. Jordi Hereu, the Mayor of the City of Vienna, Dr. Michael Häupl, and the Ambassadress of Austria in Spain Dr. Ulrike Tilly .

The Austrian-Catalonian Organization committee for The Gala de Austria is under the direction of The Honorary Consul General in Barcelona Dr. José María Bové Montero and The Austrian Trade Delegate Christian Gessl and will count with the cooperation of The President of the Liceu-Club, Mr. Jaoquín Calvo Jacques.

The Gala de Austria ranks amongst the major social events of this year in Catalunya and will take place in the Palau Nacional de Catalunya at Montjuic.

High ranking representatives of politics, economy, art and culture, tourism as well as national and international media, representatives of several consulates, members of the most distinguished clubs of Barcelona - all in all about 1800 guests are expected to be present for this glamorous and unique evening.

The aim of the event is to demonstrate the world-famous Viennese Ball Culture to the Catalan, Spanish and international guests. Gala de Austria is a charity ball and all the benefit will be donated to the José Carreras International Leukaemia Foundation and the Rotary International Program PolioPlus.
